In Guyana public schools, students are required to say about four christian prayers throughout the day, despite there being other major religions. Some of them are shown below:
The Constitution of Guyana Article 145 states that
'(3) Except with his own consent (or,
if he is a person who has not attained the age of eighteen years, the consent
of his guardian), no person attending any place of education shall be required
to receive religious instructions or take part in or attend any religious
ceremony or observance if that instruction, ceremony or observance relates to a
religion which is not his or her own.'
Why are Hindu and Muslim students subjected to recite christian prayers in school, even if it is not their religion and the law does not require students to recite it? What are some solutions that should be proposed?
